Position Description:
Under general direction, the Graphic Designer (GD) has a dual role of working in the computer room with design aspects and in the production room with sign making. The GD must be a self-starter, organized, and efficient. Designer is responsible for creating computer generated vinyl and/or full color graphics output that can be weeded, cut and applied or printed and mounted to a substrate. This may involve various levels of artistic creativity and will ultimately lead to the complete or modified design from customer drawings, files, or exact output of customer-supplied design for output to media. In the production room, GD is responsible for all aspects of the physical construction and assembling of signs from cut vinyl and wide format, full-color printouts (solvent). Sign assembly includes preparing substrates and applying vinyl or other media according to written instructions. Also, mounting and/or laminating inkjet prints and operating and setting-up a hot and/or cold laminator for over-laminating, encapsulation, or mounting of digital imaged products is required. Proof-reading signs and conducting quality assurance to ensure accuracy of signs is required.

Knowledge:
Correct language usage including spelling, grammar and punctuation; ability to proofread; basic math; sign basics including design theory, typestyles, and color theory, etc., interpreting a ruler, using calculator.

Technical Skills:
Conceptualizing and creating designs from ideas or rough drawings; proficient in PC and MAC operating systems; advanced in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign; experience with any/all of the following desktop publishing software programs on both MAC and PC is helpful: Onyx, Quark, Corel Draw, touch typing with accuracy.

Production Skills:
Weeding and taping; aligning vinyl on substrates; safely operating power tools and equipment; working with solvent and wide format printers; working with plotters; cutting substrates and sign finishing; vehicle wraps and vinyl installation. Designer will be required to do installations and lift heavy substrates and rolls of material.

Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design is preferred; prior sign industry experience of at least one year is preferred.
