By the way, this town rocks and the musicians here and in Idaho have mad skills, trust me, I have jammed with cats from Boston to Idaho, as far south as Florida and Texas and as far north as New Hampshire and Washinton and they ain't got nothing on us. I have recorded 4 CDs with local musicians here and Idaho and they have taken my music to higher levels than I expected.

We also have some of THE BEST audio engineers here, just pick up a CD by most any local artists. Might I suggest some Civilized Animal, or some vintage Citizen Swing or Distorted Silence, (Oh yeah, and some Coleman Underground too) and you will hear what I am talking about! Some of these bands are defunct, but those cool songs are still out there and as well as the engineers who recorded them, so check 'em out, use your resource, support your local artist, stay in school, say no to drugs, use your illusions and for the love of St. Pete, keep on rockin' in the free world!!!!

If your were to contain your volume to the corner you're at you may draw a crowd who give up love, whether applause money tips
or just hangin around longer "TO DIG" your great rhythms n patterns. Thats what I see when I tour to the great meca's of our wonderful industry.
Low intimate volume makes for a more appreciative intimate crowd that just may make you some money.

Just alittle heads up my friend. You play well and I too would enjoy a more comfortable level to dig ya and audio is my business. I like what you do.

At lunch, inside, a whole block away I heard people talking at the tables around me about how un cool your volume was.

You draw more bees with honey. MAKE me wanna come across the street to get closer and share your experience. I can't if your blowin my ears off.

Please please my friend....be more considerate of all others around you. Turn way down man not because the law says you can be this loud but rather
drawing people to ya because they like and can tolerate what and how loud they want. Everyone in the whole world would like less volume in the whole world.

Thats means drawing the crowd...not pushin them away. There never was a law against busking. The law was how loud you could be (meant for the comfort of all around).

Turn down man...or rather just get rid of the amp. We can hear how well ya can play from half a block away with no amp. Thats gonna make me walk across the street
to get closer.

Radio sponsors, the City of Spokane, and local merchants downtown. Seems to me they did have bands on Thursdays on the side st across from macys that went pretty well.

$500.00-1000.00 might be a bit more realistic and maybe 20 - 40 bands.

I did talk to the Woman who has the Restaurant across from Macy's last summer and she thought it was a great idea to have live bands on an outdoor stage in front of her place.

And no I don't want to work that hard I'm semi retired and working on a new R&B show among other things as it is.

I'm in dire financial straits (house threatened with foreclsoure) and wish to sell my entire CD collection if I'm able.

I've been collecting CDs since college, and possess around 2K titles -- mostly avant garde jazz but also trad, blues, world, Bach, and 20th C. art music. I have most of the classic Blue Notes, Prestige, Swiss Hat, Delmark, ESP, Wergo, and many other collectables, rare, and OOP issues that would be of immense appeal to anyone interested in art music: all the jazz heavies, plus the avantists, European improvising scene, etc. Collection is impeccably cared for and resides in about 10 large folios. All liner notes included -- alphabetized in two tupperware containers.

Anyways, the best place to look at is The Cretin Hop. Call up or message TC and see what he can do for you. Hes always getting new bands in there to play, and im sure he has a show planned needing a band to fill it out.

Another place to think of is the Empyrean. Though that place has been really hit or miss with a lot of people. They can be really nice one day, complete snoody the next, will pay you, not pay you. Just kind of iffy sometimes. But give it a try there.

And try to stay as much DIY as you can. You can get a booking agency, but then most likely youll be playing a show that starts at 5pm, with 10 other bands on the bill, giving you a 20min set. No one wants that, when all you need is a few e-mails back and forth and you got your own show very easily.

Ever notice that when a scene gets too saturated with one thing, the tensions start to flare??? The attitudes seem
to be rampantly competitive within the Rocker community, something you don't see as prominent in the jazz community,
although it's an entirely different scene, different flavor, different breed of cat. What I'm getting at, is why do we have to
be so threatened by other musicians? Are pickins so slim that we can't get by, playing the same stuff as the next guy?
Here's an idea: try something different! Think about it for a sec. How many postings do you see looking for players to
start a band playing classic rock covers, or blink 182 & green day influenced pop punk rock? Jazz standards? Acoustic
solo acts, ripping off John Mayer & Jason Mraz? I love listening to the blues but c'mon, it gets old to hear the same old
progression over & over at different speeds. These are all good reasons why DJ's end up sounding great. Don't get
me wrong, I'm on the side of live music, first & foremost. But the more we keep saturating our music scene with cover tunes,
no matter how good or bad, we'll always be competing with DJ's & karaoke for gigs. Both DJ's & Karaoke have a place in
the grand scheme of things, but there's nothing quite as cool as seeing a good live original kickass artist do their thing,
that no one else can do the same. So drop all the squabbling over who should win the battle of the douchebags. Do something
you can call your own, then you don't have to fight for table scraps. Quit trying to be just like somebody famous. Everything
you've heard has already been done. Stake your own claim. Sure, you run the risk of people not liking it, so what? Go back to
the drawing board. Come back next time with something else. It'd be cool to see the clubs book more than one style of music.
Include more people. Exclude fewer potential customers. Just my thoughts.

Spokane is a great place to live and play music. Pay sucks, but if you do it for the fun of it, good for you. You want fame and more money, move. It's quite simple.
