condition: like new
Perhaps gruesome to some but this is factual history. This is a copy of the book, "Who Killed Martin Luther King," authentically AUTOGRAPHED BY THE CONVICTED KILLER, James Earl Ray.

The book was first published and hit book stores at the beginning of 1992. I bought my copy on January 11, 1992 at Waldenbooks in Nashville, Tennessee. I still have the receipt (legible but fading). I am a native Tennessean.

At that time, my best buddy from high school and college (Mike, full name to be provided to parties with genuine interest) was a teacher for convicts at the Tennessee State Prison where James Earl Ray was incarcerated. Ray was their most (in)famous prisoner. I immediately got my copy of the book to Mike, asking him about the POSSIBILITY of getting Ray's "autograph" in the book. On January 14, Mike did so and got the book back to me.

I am now much older, retired, and my adult children have no interest in these things, so I am offering it for sale.

The story in this book speaks about collusion and conspiracy and posits that Ray actually did not "pull the trigger" killing Dr. King. Ray was credible enough that both MLK's wife, Coretta King, and their son, MLK III, stated in talk shows and elsewhere that they believed there was something to Ray's story. The Foreword of this book was written by the Reverend Jesse L. Jackson.

Shortly after I received my autographed copy, the prison warden prohibited Ray from signing anything else for staff or visitors, presumably to prevent Ray from profiting and to stop prison staff from disrupting their work. It might also have been because Ray escaped once (recaptured shortly thereafter) and wardens don't much like that. The warden was overruled later (possibly due to the involvement of MLK's family, but that is just a guess).

What I do know is that this was the earliest if not the ONLY signed copy that my friend got for me (within 2 weeks of its hitting the bookstores).

I am located in Spokane, WA and will provide a written and notarized affidavit of the provenance of this copy to the buyer.

Thank you for reading.
