This is a original, hand sketched charcoal portrait of Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) as he looked c.1954 when he lived and worked in France. It comes with 2 books which picture him and explore some of his works, and some of his history. Picasso never sat for a portrait in person. I think it is possible that he felt that his work was the expression of who and what he was as a unique human being. I think that this idea of being in-onement with one's work may be a common human trait. Perhaps you have felt this yourself in your work. Be that as it may be, as his popularity expanded, some people in the world at large enjoyed seeing what he looked like, and a number of Artist saw that need and sketched him from existent photographs which were and still are readily available.
Based on extensive research, I consider this particular portrait to be a "Museum Quality" piece of Art worthy of display. It measures 37" x 25" framed under glass. The image itself is in very fine condition. The signature of the artist can easily be seen, as pictured, but it is difficult to discern. It looks to me like it could be signed as L C Bernard. The framing appears to be 50 or more years old, and while it is at least adequate, it deserves to be upgraded for the sake of long-term protection. Because over time, there will still continue to be some people who will enjoy seeing what he looked like as he evolved. And that concept is what this listing is all about.
