This unique bench (or porch pew) is crafted from a double-trunk blued Douglas Fir where significant beetle damage had killed the top of the tree, and features a fun “epoxy river” feature where the two trunks come together. The legs for this bench are crafted from laminated cedar with hidden hardware.
The bench also features a beautiful hand-crafted wood burn scene adding a touch of elegance, created for Board Bees in collaboration with Tawnya Merrill.
Prior to applying the varnish, the entire bench was saturated with multiple applications of Total Boat Penetrating Epoxy which soaks into the small cracks and crevices then cures into a strong structural reinforcement of the wood grain. The bench was then finished with Total Boat Halcyon Varnish which will provide years of UV protection.
The bench also features adjustable “feet” which keep the wood up off the porch and prevent unnecessary and premature decay of the bench or porch.
This bench will be featured at the Christmas Craft Show at the Boundary County Fairgrounds on December 5 & 6 (if it doesn’t sell here first). Watch for other unique north Idaho sawmill creations on the Board Bee’s Facebook page.
