Soundproof, weatherproof outdoor generator enclosure built to house a portable generator up to about 7kW. Designed and built as a backup power setup for a residential home. Generator is NOT included. Everything you see in the photos other than the generator comes with the package.
What you get:
- Suncast horizontal storage shed (gray, heavy duty resin)
- Full interior lining of Rockwool mineral wool insulation. Rockwool is fireproof and is also one of the best sound dampening materials you can use, much better than fiberglass
- Variable speed exhaust fan with controller, mounted in the side wall for proper ventilation and heat management
- Weatherproof exterior outlet box for safely running power out to the house
- Exhaust pass-through with fire-rated heat wrap on the exhaust connection
- Pressure treated wood foundation
This was built to solve the problem of running a portable generator outside without driving everyone crazy with the noise, without leaving it exposed to weather, and without the cost of a $5,000 to $15,000 whole-house standby unit. The Rockwool dramatically cuts the noise, the variable speed fan keeps the generator cool and prevents CO buildup inside the box, and the whole thing locks up.
For reference, a comparable commercial enclosure like a ZombieBox PeaceMaker runs $1,489 and up before you add ventilation, exhaust, or a base. Materials in this build alone are well over $600 retail.
Everything works, ready to use. Just bring your generator.
